Why does Party chief Trong still print and distribute useless theoretical books?

On social networks, recently, many opinions have said that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong is always in a state of old age and weak health. He is over 80 years old, and it is understandable that he spends more time at the hospital than he does at work, as well as at home.

But with such a health condition, the fact that the party chief still regularly writes books, which are published as study materials (?!), is quite unusual, especially since each book is up to 600 pages.

Most recently, Communist Magazine on June 21 reported, “Launching ceremony of the book ‘Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national identity’ by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.” The news said that on June 21, the Central Committee’s Commission on Propaganda and Education, the Ministry of Culture-Sports-Tourism, the National Political Publishing House, jointly organized the launching ceremony of the book “Construction and Developing an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity” by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Attending the ceremony were the following officials: Luong Cuong – Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat; Head of the Commission on Propaganda and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia; and many other senior leaders…

Also according to Communist Magazine, in 2023, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam written, published, printed and released political anthologies at least three times. Specifically:

– In early 2023, publish the book “Resolutely and persistently fighting against corruption and negativity, contributing to building our Party and State increasingly clean and strong” with more than 600 pages and containing nearly 100 illustrations.

– In May 2023, published 2 books, titled “Some theoretical and practical issues about socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam” and “Resolute, steadfast fight against corruption and negativity, contributing to building our Party and State increasingly clean and strong.”

– In November 2023, published a book titled “The whole country unites, takes advantage of every opportunity, overcomes all difficulties and challenges, determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress” also more than 600 pages and nearly 100 illustrations.

Furthermore, in February 2024, state media also reported on the ceremony “Launching two new books by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.” According to the introduction of the Commission on Propaganda and Education, “These books are published by the Central Committee’s Commission on Internal Affairs and the National Political Publishing House, and published to the public.”

Public opinion finds that, in the last years of his life, the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam has shown signs of “abusing power,” printing and publishing too many theoretical books, with tens of thousands of copies for each book which is a huge waste. At the same time, public opinion also asked: “Who would read the General Secretary’s anti-corruption book printed?”

Facebooker Kim Van Chinh – former lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, wrote on his personal page with an insinuating comment:

“According to newspaper reports: the book has 900 pages but was written in 27 months. The General Secretary writes so quickly, it is very good. Reading the news, I kept seeing that this work was very similar to the three great works of General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Bregienhev, written when he was old.

Likewise, in the near future, students will probably have to study smoothly (according to comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia’s words). Reminds me, in the past I also studied the 3 works of beloved leader Bregienhev… But now I have forgotten them all.”

Most recently, on June 21, Professor Zachary Abuza, in a commentary titled, “Mendicant Thich Minh Tue brings shameful contrast to the Vietnamese leadership” when commenting on General Secretary Trong:

The Burn the Furnace campaign against corruption also brought lasting damage to the Party’s image. This campaign has exposed an unpleasant truth. That is: There are not just one or two worms in the senior leadership, but all of them, 100% are involved in corruption. Then, the truth about senior leaders was revealed to the public one after another.”

Besides, there are many opinions that General Secretary Trong takes budget money to “polish” his name, and more importantly, will bring Trong a large amount of pen money. That’s not to mention the cost of organizing massive and expensive book launch ceremonies./.
