More than 36,000 employees in Vietnam’s southern province of Binh Duong in the first quarter of this year had their labor contracts delayed or took unpaid leave. The number of employees receiving unemployment insurance benefits in the quarter was more than 12,100 people.

The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (LOL) of Vietnam on March 27 announced the above data.

Mr. Pham Van Tuyen – Deputy Director of Binh Duong Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that the recruitment situation of enterprises from the end of last year to the beginning of this year did not have a positive signal as in previous years. The difficult reality is acknowledged by Mr. Tuyen, so far there has been no sign of improvement.

Enterprises with recruitment needs are mainly small and medium enterprises, the number of recruitment is not much, only from a few people to a few dozen people; while the majority of large enterprises have almost no need to recruit workers, but on the contrary, cut back.

Also according to Mr. Pham Van Tuyen’s presentation, it is forecast that the demand for labor recruitment in the second quarter of 2023 needs only about 8,000 to 10,000 employees, of which skilled workers account for 75%-80%. Areas that need skilled workers include sewing clothes, backpacks, bags, furniture, mechanics, hardware, etc.
