Former Quang Nam party chief’s daughter has stolen $80K and ongoing anti-corruption

The Party’s leading officials and their children are rich beyond people’s imagination, which is true.

Recently, public has stirred up the case of the female Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Giang Huong of the People’s Committee of Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province, who was defrauded many times online, with a total amount of up to VND170 billion ($7 million)

Immediately after that, on March 24, VnExpress online reported “Stealing more than VND2 billion of girlfriend’s assets.” The news said that Huynh Ngoc Tan, 31 years old, living in Vinh Long, was criminally detained by Thu Duc Police for the act of “stealing of property.”

According to the police, Huynh Ngoc Tan and the girl living in Thao Dien Masteri apartment building, Thao Dien ward, Thu Duc city, had a romantic relationship. Recently, when visiting his girlfriend’s house, Tan saw many valuable assets and foreign currency so he became greedy.

Taking advantage of his lover’s sleep, Tan stole a branded watch, foreign wine, and dollars worth more than VND2 billion, then left. After that, Tan was arrested in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.

Regarding the incident just mentioned, many state-controlled newspapers also said that this girlfriend is the daughter of a “former Secretary of a Central province” but did not specify which province.

Specifically, according to VietNamNet, the girl in the incident “is the daughter of the former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee in the Central region, who just retired a few months ago.” The stolen assets include: 1 Rolex watch worth VND1.2 billion, expensive wine, and US dollars; with a total value of more than VND2 billion, equivalent to more than $80,000.

On social networks and political forums, this topic is being hotly discussed. Many opinions say that this incident shows that the current common situation is that officials and their relatives have a lot of money. At the same time, through research with the case of the retired Provincial Party Committee Secretary in the Central region recently, many opinions affirmed that the information from the above case coincided with former Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee Phan Viet Cuong. – who just resigned from the position of Secretary of the provincial Party Committee on January 1, 2024.

This opinion was even more clearly affirmed when information about the theft was just published by the state-controlled media portraying untrue content, creating loopholes for bad guys to take advantage of to distort and sabotage.

Through research, it is known that, related to violations in project management, contracted by Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan’s Advanced Joint Stock Company (AIC), the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Nam province at that time was Phan Viet Cuong was disciplined and reprimanded.

On November 16, 2023, the state-controlled media reported that the Central Commission for Inspection proposed that the Politburo discipline Phan Viet Cuong, with the reason “violating the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations;”  lack of responsibility and lax leadership.” Specifically, Cuong was accused of violations related to projects of AIC in Quang Nam province. However, Mr. Cuong’s violations were not clarified.

According to VnExpress newswire at the end of 2023, it was revealed that Cuong, 60 years old, was laid off 6 months earlier than his age, due to “health reasons.” He explained to VnExpress that, because his health is not good enough to work, he has had to undergo medical treatment since the beginning of 2023.

Public opinion sees that the two highest goals of anti-corruption in any country must be to reduce corruption to the lowest level and recover corrupt assets to the highest possible level.

Through the violations of former Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Nam province, Phan Viet Cuong, it has been shown that not only was Cuong not prosecuted for the crime of “deliberate wrongdoing” to profit, but anti-corruption agencies also ignore measures to recover assets obtained from crimes. The stolen assets of Cuong’s daughter are an example.

Violations involving middle and high-level leaders of the Party like the above case, corrupt officials took advantage of loopholes in the law to commit corruption, but when discovered, the Party handled them in a light punishment for senior officials.

In fact, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s “burning the furnace” campaign has failed to achieve almost any goal, including the goal of maintaining a “stable corruption” situation.

What does that have to do with accusations that the Communist Party of Vietnam and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong are maintaining the policy of “Fighting corruption to feed corruption”?./.
