US, Vietnam wishes to elevate the strategic partnership

The US Ambassador (right) just had a meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien to discuss stabilizing long-term cooperation between the two countries.

US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper wished the US to become Vietnam’s most important partner in the fields of energy security, food, and climate.

Ambassador Knapper said the above information at a meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and was announced to the Vietnamese state-controlled media by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on March 21.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that he would cooperate effectively and sincerely with the US to achieve the stated goals, especially in the fields of both potentials and common interests, such as maintaining stability and security, global supply chain, energy, digital economy, etc.

US Ambassador Marc E.Knapper also pledged to work and cooperate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Government of Vietnam to elevate the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership to a strategic partnership.

Ambassador Knapper highly appreciated the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s approval of the Vietnam Low Emission Energy Project (V-LEEP) funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and hoped that the Ministry of Industry and Trade would continue to further promote Vietnam’s energy transformation as well as create opportunities to welcome investment in clean energy into Vietnam.

Also at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien recalled that Vietnamese honey was investigated by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) for anti-dumping. Mr. Dien said that Vietnam’s honey is not the cause of damage to the US honey industry. Currently, the US honey processing industry only meets more than 25% of the total consumer demand in this market.

Thereby, Mr. Dien wished that Vietnam would receive a positive, fair, and objective consideration from the DOC in the final conclusion of the case, ensuring compliance with WTO regulations, towards harmonizing interests in bilateral trade and the common goals of the two countries.

Concluding the working session, Dien said that he believes that the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the United States will become increasingly effective, stable, and long-term, creating a basis for strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries towards enhancing bilateral relations in the future.
